The genome size of CS was estimated as 3,266,706 bp (27.5% G + C content), and no toxin is encoded in the only identified plasmid (32,264 bp, 28% G + C) that is present in three to four copies per cell [2]. Clostridium perfringens beta toxin is one of the four major lethal protein toxins produced by Clostridium perfringens Type B and Type C strains. It is a necrotizing agent and it induces hypertension by release of catecholamine. It has been shown to cause necrotic enteritis in mammals and induces necrotizing intestinal lesions in the rabbit ileal loop model.
